As he prepares to testify against pimp Bart Ganzel, a woman comes forward claiming that Brian Cassidy raped her while he was an undercover detective. ADA Barba, Detective Benson and the SVU squad nervously await the outcome of the trial, concerned for Cassidy as well as the ongoing prosecution of Ganzel. When prosecutor Derek Strauss pushes hard for a win, Cassidy and his lawyer use some surprising methods of defense, with shocking consequences for Detective Amaro.
As Detective Cassidy is preparing to testify in the Bart Ganzel case, a woman named Heather Riggs arrives at the station claiming that Cassidy sexually assaulted her 4 years ago while working undercover. She never saw him again until she recognized his photo in the newspapers about the Ganzel trial.
Cassidy's lawyer brings in a woman named Cynthia who is the sister of a drug lord into court in order to prove that an undercover officer has to do illegal things to look convincing. It is revealed that Nick slept with Cynthia during his undercover days.
As Nick attempts to talk to Cynthia, she is furious because she didn't known that Nick was a cop and working undercover to take down her brother. When Nick tries to apologize, Cynthia angrily leaves. After Nick realizes that Cassidy revealed the information, he confronts him and Cassidy tells him he is looking at a 10-year prison sentence and didn't have any other options. When Cassidy is questioned on the stand by Strauss and gives his version of events, Strauss turns the whole thing around to make Cassidy look bad.
Cassidy apologizes to Nick for what his lawyer did to him and they agree to help each other out. Cassidy and Rollins go undercover as drug dealers and meet Chavez and tells him that they need him to supply some drugs.
Nick and Munch go undercover as goons and visit Navarro who tell him to settle his gambling debts, but says that he doesn't have the money. They tell Navarro if he can't pay, he has to work it off. Navarro meets Chavez under a bridge and tells him to give him the drugs and shows him the money. Chavez is soon surrounded by the police before he could get away and the drugs are found in the trunk of his car.
In dealing with the triad society, undercover operations are among the toughest jobs. Still these operations were a most effective way to disrupt and cripple the tongs, as long as the operations were planned out and progressed cautiously.
In a case that took place in recent years, an undercover police officer provided evidence of a group of triad members holding a ritual to pay homage to a gang leader who had been killed by his foes. The gathering otherwise would appear simply a traditional ritual done on the Hungry Ghost Festival. It would have been hard to convict the participants on triad-related charges were it not for conclusive evidence collected from the inside.
A recent large-scale, undercover operation code named Night stinger, resulted in the arrests of 222 triad members, including some big guys and a Sun Yee On high-ranking gang leader. The operation took two years.
For the past few decades, the Hong Kong police have strategized a number of undercover operations to slip undercover moles into triad society. Though rather costly, undercover operations are constantly applied when it is considered necessary and the best effective way to collect intelligence and crush the gangs.
During one court trial, an undercover operative gave his account of how he spent his days during the operation. He never was offered full recruitment, but was hired at a speakeasy operated by some core members of the SunYee On, working for a faction leader.
Luckily, what was said did not go further. The next day the gang leader told the undercover cop to forget about what was said because the gang leader was drunk. The cop finished his work eventually unscathed.
Sometimes the situation can get seriously thorny. During my years with the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, we contrived and guided an undercover operation which lasted for two years. The mole managed to be recruited by several triad tongs. But towards the end of the operation, he was
Hong Kong people love the myths about undercover cops glamorized in the cinema. The film Infernal Affairs released in 2002, arguably the most successful one of the genre. Infernal Affair made its mark at the box office with the dramatic upheavals of its story line.
After the Independent Commission Against Corruption was founded, a few cases were discovered in which police had connected with triads and engaged in graft or crime, but they were bribed with money and other temptations and were not working as undercover operatives. Even if a triad member does manage to get into the police force and attempts to collect intelligence, our intelligence would track down on him sooner or later.
Like lois, I'm a Danny Pino fangirl, so of course I loved that he was front and center this episode--and he did an amazing job, I thought. But I admit that I was a little happy to see Nick taken down a peg. I think his character needed it. But at the same time, I'm happy that he didn't cheat on his wife (who I don't like, and I hope she's gone) and that this all happened before Maria. Oh, and on my usual shallow fangirly note, Danny Pino looked HOT in this episode. That scruff on him in the latter part of the episode Rrawr.Okay, back to adulthood. I personally like Cassidy (probably because I like Dean Winters), and I think that he and Mariska have chemistry, so I'm glad the door's open for them to bring him back. I think the two of them have a believable weary, adult, \"happily for now\" sort of air to their pairing.Loved, loved, LOVED the sting part of the episode. Rollins in her undercover disguise, Nick in that do-rag or whatever he was wearing, and most especially, Munch in that pimp outfit was a riot. Why no Cragen recently, though, I wonder We've had more Munch, less Cragen. Do they both make so much money that they can only pay one per episode, LOLOne last thing: I was confused. Did Amaro's baby mama realize her boyfriend was dealing drugs Did she realize her son was being used She didn't seem too upset about discovering little Gilberto was involved. All in all, best episode of this season for me.
I really enjoyed the episode, and wasn't surprised at all about Olivia and Brian. I was happy to see them together, and really enjoyed the scene where Munch and Nick caught them together at Brian's house. Great to see Nick come down a peg, from being so sanctimonious all the time. Love the undercover scenes, especially Munch. Overall, definitely worth the wait. 59ce067264
